Free XML Sitemap Generator

An XML sitemap is a file that lists the important pages of your website so search engines like Google and Bing can find and crawl them efficiently. It acts as a roadmap of your site, telling search engines which URLs exist, when each page was last updated, how often it changes and how important it is.

This free tool builds a valid sitemap.xml for any website — no signup and no artificial page limit. If your site already publishes a sitemap, we read it instantly (even with thousands of URLs). If it doesn't, we crawl your internal links to build one for you.

How it works

Why XML sitemaps matter for SEO

Search engines discover pages by following links, but on a large, new, or poorly-linked site some pages can be missed entirely. An XML sitemap gives Google a direct list of every URL you want indexed, so important pages aren't left out just because nothing links to them yet.

A sitemap also carries useful metadata — when a page was last modified and how often it changes — which helps search engines crawl your site more intelligently and re-check updated pages sooner.

How to submit your sitemap to Google

Once you've generated and downloaded your sitemap.xml, upload it to the root folder of your website so it loads at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. Add a line to your robots.txt that reads 'Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml' so crawlers can find it automatically.

Then open Google Search Console, go to the Sitemaps section, enter the sitemap URL and submit. Google will fetch it and start using it to crawl your pages. Re-submit whenever you add a batch of new pages.

Existing sitemap vs. crawled sitemap

If your website already publishes a sitemap (most WordPress, Shopify and modern CMS sites do), this tool reads it directly — including sitemap index files that point to many child sitemaps — so you get the complete URL list quickly, even for very large sites.

If no sitemap is found, the tool crawls your site starting from the homepage and follows internal links to build one. Crawling is bounded by a safe limit and a time budget so it stays fast and never overloads a server — if you have a huge site, publishing a proper sitemap through your CMS is the better long-term approach, and this tool helps you confirm what's there.

Frequently asked questions

Is this XML sitemap generator really free?

Yes — completely free, with no login, no email and no page limit on reading an existing sitemap. It's a public tool.

Is there a page limit?

If your site already has a sitemap, we can read tens of thousands of URLs from it. If we have to crawl your site to build one from scratch, we cap the live crawl at a safe limit to protect both servers — but most large sites already publish a sitemap we can read in full.

Where do I put the sitemap.xml file?

Upload it to the root of your website so it's reachable at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, then add that URL to your robots.txt and submit it in Google Search Console.

What are changefreq and priority?

changefreq hints how often a page changes (daily, weekly, etc.) and priority (0.0–1.0) hints its relative importance. They're hints only — Google treats them loosely — but a valid sitemap still helps crawling.

Does this work for WordPress, Shopify, Wix or custom sites?

Yes. It works on any website. Many platforms already generate a sitemap, which this tool will read directly; otherwise it crawls your pages.

Will submitting a sitemap improve my rankings?

A sitemap doesn't directly boost rankings, but it helps search engines find and index your pages, which is a prerequisite for ranking — especially for new or large sites.
